Access Policy
Members of the Caltech community have access to the Archives during regular work hours. A phone call or e-mail notification prior to visiting is preferred. Caltech users may request borrowing privileges for our circulating book collection. Otherwise, rare and manuscript material must be used on site. The Caltech Archives welcomes inquiries from off-site scholars and qualified researchers interested in our holdings. Inquiries must be sent to the Archives in writing, via email, fax, or mail. If a visit is intended, inquiries should include a brief description of the research project, the name(s) of the individual(s) or subject matter relevant to the study, and the intended purpose of the research. Under some circumstances, additional information may be requested. Alternatively, inquiries may be submitted through our online contact form. More information regarding access and visiting is on our Information for Visitors page. Researchers who are admitted to the Caltech Archives must complete and submit an Application for Access (1 page PDF, 33KB) to Archival Materials. This form states in part that researchers will not cite, quote, or otherwise reproduce any material whose literary or reproduction rights are owned or supervised by Caltech or by third parties without first obtaining written permission from the Caltech Archives.
